POS Application Program Interface Software
Interfacing the Point-Of-Service Device is now easier than ever
POS Application Program Interface (Xi
and XiServer)
What is "Xi and XiServer"
The Retail Choice Xi product is a middleware
application that runs on customer point-of-service (POS) systems.
Xi provides POS applications with an interface to Xtran
and the Retail Choice Network.
The
Xi Server
runs as a background process (or
Windows service) on the customer’s Point-of-service (POS) system.
XiServer:
-
Converts device requests and responses to/from the message format
required by Xtran
-
Concentrates requests from multiple (store) devices
onto communication links to the Xtran gateway.
-
Returns an Xtran response to the device that
originated the request.
-
Manages multiple links to one or more Xtran
gateways
-
Round robins or priority (primary/secondary) schedules
transaction requests among multiple Xtran connections.
-
Automatically reverses transactions that fail due to
network/issuer timing and system problems.
The interface to XiServer is through the Xi
Application Programmer’s Interface (API). The interface is ‘object’
oriented. The transaction is defined by an ‘Xi Transaction Object’. The
POS application accesses the Xi Transaction Object by executing
functions in the Xi API.
To execute a transaction the POS application:
-
Creates an Xi Transaction Object (defining the transaction and
account type)
-
Defines additional transaction information such as amount and
account number
-
Sends the transaction request to XiServer for processing.
Optionally waits for a response.
-
Extracts and processes results from the transaction response.
-
Closes the Xi Transaction Object
